All that you need to know about the medical marijuana: cannabis fm2.

Legal, medical marijuana in Italy can be imported from other countries (by 2020 in the Netherlands and Canada), it is marijuana produced directly in Europe, such as cannabis FM2 and FM1. It is a product whose cannabinoid quantities differ significantly from CBD weed.

If the THC content of medical cannabis reaches up to 22% in some varieties, and CBD is often very low, THC should be less than 0.2% in CBD cannabis. CBD, on the other hand, is present in very high percentages, which in the most renowned qualities, such as California Haze and Gorilla Glue, exceed 20%.

So the FM2 cannabis that we’re going to talk about in this article has high amounts of THC. But let’s look at the other features of this variety.

Characteristics of medical cannabis FM2.

Medical cannabis FM2 is produced exclusively at the military chemical plant in Florence from 2017. Before 2017, only varieties imported from the Netherlands, such as Bedrocan cannabis and Bediol, were available in Italy.

FM2 and other varieties of medical marijuana are grown indoors (i.e. in greenhouses), by cloning, not seedlings, in controlled and computerized environments. The use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and other potentially harmful substances is prohibited, to the point that parasites are controlled by predatory insects, introduced by humans, into greenhouses.

Plants grow in optimal conditions precisely because of the computerization of the environment. The parameters of humidity, temperature, water, etc. are fully automated and designed to ensure the maximum well-being of hemp seedlings.

Cannabis FM2 produces flowers with between 5 and 8% THC and CBD between 7.5 and 12%. It is, therefore, a cannabis variety with a very balanced relationship between the main cannabinoids.

What are the effects of Cannabis FM2?

The effects of medical marijuana FM2 have been tested in numerous studies, including a February 2018 study published in the journal Pathos, devoted to the research and treatment of pain.

In this research (an observational study on the effects of Flos cannabis and FM2 cannabis in chronic neuropathic pain), the researchers compared the effects of Cannabis Flos (i.e. Dutch bediol) and FM2 cannabis.

Both varieties have very similar amounts in terms of THC and CBD. FM2 has a THC between 5 and 8% and CBD between 7.5 and 12%, while Cannabis Flos has 6% THC and CBD amounts to 8%.

So what is the difference between FM2 and Bediol, beyond production in different countries?

The study published in Pathos revealed that during 6 months of use, the side effects reported by patients taking marijuana FM2 were lower (and less frequent) than those found by those seeking Bediol (Cannabis Flos).

However, both groups of patients experienced a significant reduction in pain, stabilized as the months passed. However, the group using Cannabis FM2 used fewer pain medications than the Bediol group.

Besides, anxiety and depressive symptoms, as measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), also saw a more significant reduction in the FM2 group than in the Cannabis Flos group.

Purchase and use of medical cannabis FM2

You should be aware that medical cannabis flowers are not marketed immediately after cultivation and cleaning. The factory sells sealed jars to licensed pharmacies with marijuana and CBD flowers already chopped inside (the cost of the FM2 bottle weighing 5g is 34.40 euros, VAT 22%, or 41.97 euros in shipping costs).

Galenic or hospital pharmacies then produce cannabis-based medicines from chopped flowers based on specific indications from the Ministry of Health. These drugs can have several forms, including:

  • Capsules/pills,
  • Dye
  • CBD Oil
  • Cream
  • Gel
  • Glycerine/glycol extracts,
  • Liquid for e-cigarettes
  • Cartridges
  • Eye drops,
  • Resin
  • Medical chewing gum

Each pharmacy establishes ( according to the indications of the Italian region of its membership) in what formats to distribute drugs based on medical marijuana. However, it cannot distribute them in the form of cannabis flowers, chopped or not.

But who can use cannabis-based drugs?

We have to distinguish between those who buy medical drugs based on cannabis, and those who get them free of charge paid for by the health care system.

Anyone with a doctor’s prescription can purchase a cannabis-based drug, based on a pathology that offers a minimum of accredited medical literature. In the composition, it is necessary to indicate specific details such as the name of the medical cannabis or CBD cannabis variety, THC and CBD levels, the reason for the prescription and more.

In some areas, it is also necessary to indicate the dosage of the drug.

Countries independently determine diseases for which cannabis-based drugs can be obtained from the health system, some of them include:

  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Glaucoma
  • Chronic neurogenic pain
  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Tourette’s syndrome
  • Aids

Some contries also approve the use of these drugs to counter the side effects of treatment-related treatments related to:

  • Cancer patients (chemotherapy and radiotherapy)
  • HIV and AIDS treatments

In all cases, it is up to the different states to determine for which pathologies or symptoms they want to ensure the distribution of cannabis-based drugs.
